The Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (CMRS) is an interdisciplinary center of the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) at the American University in Cairo (AUC). CMRS aims at furthering the scientific knowledge of refugee and migration movements in the region and beyond. CMRS’ functions include education, research, training, and outreach.

Along with the Center for Strategic Studies (CSS), University of Jordan, CMRS will be responsible for the Egypt-Jordan corridor. The work of the corridor intends to comprehend and evaluate the micro and macro migration related issues focusing on three of MIDEQ's eleven themes: migrant perceptions, knowledge and decision-making, migration intermediaries, and inequalities related to childhood.

For each theme, CMRS will design and implement the qualitative research in the four or five governorates in Egypt that are known to be sending migrants to Jordan. During the design phase, CMRS will carry rigorous literature review and develop the data collection tools. The implementation phase will comprise the recruitment and training of field researchers in each of the selected governorates. Through working with local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and local researchers, CMRS intends to contribute to building the research capacity of institutions and individuals.
