Instituto Maria e João Aleixo

Instituto Maria e João Aleixo (IMJA) is a non-governmental, non-profit organisation which contributes to the understanding of the forms, functions and processes that characterise peripheral territories, taking into account the social practices of the individuals and their ways of insertion into social world. In addition, IMJA systematises and disseminates methodologies and social technologies that expand the possibilities of the individuals from the peripheries and their political place in the world. Finally, yet importantly, IMJA promotes an international movement of the peripheries that articulate associated researchers, social activists and culture producers for the creation of collaborative processes that expand the studies and propositions of plural development policies. To achieve its objective, IMJA is structured in three projects: UNIperiferias, EDUNIperiferias and IPAD.
